How do our refill pouches work?
Recycling holds immense significance for us at Henley Naturals, forming a cornerstone of our commitment to sustainability and the reduction of plastic waste. Through embracing our refill system, customers actively help contribute to our core objective of avoiding single-use plastic. With a steadfast focus on natural ingredients, biodegradability and small-batch production, our products are eco-friendly at its finest. Here’s more about how we implement planet friendly options with refill pouches.
What recycling means to us?
Recycling is a huge part of our commitment to sustainability and reducing plastic waste. Our core products use our revolutionary infinity bottles, which we designed to empower households to significantly diminish plastic consumption. Crafted from glass and made in the UK, these bottles offer infinite reusability, aligning with our ethos of sustainability. Complementing this innovation are our refill pouches, a simple yet effective solution to the traditional way we use cleansing products. After you’ve used one of our refill pouches, it just requires rinsing out, the cap replaces and they can be conveniently returned through the nearest postbox to our recycling partner. This seamless process not only reduces plastic waste but also underscores our dedication to eco-conscious practices. By embracing this refill system, our customers actively contribute to the avoidance of single-use plastic, a core objective for us. Moreover, our packaging is designed to be 100% recyclable, ensuring minimal environmental impact. With a focus on natural ingredients and biodegradability, our products are all about eco-friendliness. We also take great pride in producing in small batches to eliminate wastage, further exemplifying our commitment to sustainability.
What difference do reusable pouches make?
“Refill pouches significantly reduce the carbon footprint compared to rigid bottles, slashing plastic usage by a staggering 80-90%.”
Reusable pouches represent a game-changer in sustainability efforts, having a huge impact on our environmental footprint as a business but also for individuals and families looking to make a difference. Their significance extends beyond just recyclability, as they offer a substantial reduction in carbon emissions and plastic consumption. Compared to rigid bottles, refill pouches boast an impressive 80-90% reduction in plastic usage, marking a significant step forward in sustainability within the beauty world.
Their design also optimises logistical efficiency, requiring fewer resources for transportation and storage. While flexible pouches can be transported in just one truckload, rigid bottles can need 10-15 to do the same volume. Furthermore, their lightweight and durable nature contribute to minimised emissions by reducing trips to the store or home deliveries.
The production process of refill pouches also stands out for its conservation of water and energy compared to traditional bottles, presenting a hassle-free, eco-conscious alternative. Their convenient storage further shows how refillable pouches contribute to sustainable practices, offering an effortlessly efficient solution that maximises space and even reduces time spent purchasing.
How others are doing the same
There have been many brands leading the way in both environmentally friendly packaging and refill stations, like Aesop and Neal’s Yard. Their commitment to sustainability has set a high standard in the industry. Now, an increasing number of luxury brands are following suit, introducing their own initiatives for sustainable beauty practices. From fragrance brands like Diptyque, Le Labo and Jo Malone to makeup giants like Chanel, Dior, Tom Ford and Armani, a diverse array of brands have joined the movement. This shift shows a collective effort within the beauty industry to prioritise environmental responsibility without compromising on quality or aesthetics.
But, outside of the beauty industry, there are businesses doing even more.
Meet ReBorn
More than 70 million homeware products end up in landfill in the UK each year and they wanted to make a difference. ReBorn is a pioneering initiative founded in 2022 to tackle the unsustainable nature of the global homewares industry. Led by Brian Walmsley and supported by partners like Biffa and Brunel University, ReBorn aims to transform local waste into stylish and functional homeware products. Their mission is to reduce landfill waste and eliminate the need for new materials by creating items that can be 'reborn' at the end of their lifecycle. By embracing waste as a valuable resource, ReBorn represents a sustainable future for homeware manufacturing and a shift towards a more circular economy.
As a UK based business in Wiltshire, ReBorn manufactures their products in their factory, eliminating air miles and long-distance transportation. Their commitment to sustainability is shown by their use of 100% recycled plastic sourced from industrial waste. Compared to equivalent products made from virgin materials in Asia, ReBorn results in 79% less carbon emissions, based on a lifecycle analysis conducted by Brunel University London. Additionally, ReBorn's circular design approach ensures that each component consists of single materials, facilitating repair, reuse and eventual recycling at the end of its lifecycle. Showing their mission in revolutionising the homewares industry while minimising environmental impact.
Building a circular economy
Our business is built to work within a circular economy framework by prioritising sustainability at every stage of our product lifecycle. Our refillable bottles and pouches serve as prime examples of this commitment:
Design for Longevity
Our refillable bottles are crafted to be durable and long-lasting, ensuring they can withstand multiple uses without compromising quality.
Minimal Plastic Consumption
By encouraging customers to refill their bottles instead of purchasing new ones, we significantly reduce single-use plastic consumption. Our refill pouches use 88% less plastic than traditional bottles, further minimising waste.
Recyclability
Both our bottles and pouches are designed to be 100% recyclable. Customers can easily return empty pouches through our free postal service, facilitating the recycling process and closing the loop on materials.
Sustainable Material Usage
Throughout our product design and manufacturing processes, we prioritise the use of sustainable materials and production methods. This ensures that our products are environmentally friendly from inception to disposal.
Continuous Improvement
We continuously assess and improve our practices to further enhance sustainability. Whether it's optimising packaging materials or sourcing eco-friendly alternatives, we're committed to minimising our environmental footprint.
Overall, our approach revolves around promoting durability, reducing waste and maximising resource efficiency in all aspects of our business operations.
By embracing our refillable pouch system, customers not only contribute to the avoidance of single-use plastic but also support a closed-loop system that minimises waste and promotes sustainability. Our dedication to recyclability ensures that materials are repurposed and reused, further reducing our and your environmental footprint. Let's continue to embrace planet-friendly options and work towards building a brighter, cleaner future for generations to come!
