When creating Henley Naturals, we placed important emphasis on the environmental footprint of our business and the positive influence our products could have on others. These fundamental principles have been instrumental in shaping the ethos of our brand as it stands today. While acknowledging the crucial role of larger corporations in addressing climate change, we firmly believe in the enduring significance of individual responsibility. By nurturing awareness within our own homes and fostering open dialogue with friends and family about the impact of our individual choices, we empower ourselves to collectively effect positive change. And we’re not the only ones, here are some of the initiatives striving for similar goals and how reusable pouches make a difference!

Community opportunities for green hearts

We’re all here because we have a green heart. We care about how what we do affects the climate, not just for us but the generations to come. Over the years, those who share these feelings have put their time and energy into creating spaces that we can all come together to make a difference. Here are some of our favourites:

Show The Love 2024

The Climate Coalition's "Show The Love" initiative has united communities across the UK for a decade, using green hearts to promote climate action. In this critical election year, they're rallying support for urgent action against climate change and nature preservation. By sharing personal stories and actions with #ShowTheLove, they aim to showcase widespread support and inspire political leaders. Their focus on storytelling underscores the collective determination to create a sustainable future including everyone.

The Great Big Green Week

The Great Big Green Week is the UK's largest community-driven event aimed at tackling climate change and protecting nature. It features a variety of events, including swaps, workshops, and panel discussions, organised by individuals and groups across the country. With over a quarter of a million participants annually, it amplifies the public's voice on environmental issues and pressures policymakers to take action. In 2024, it will run from June 8th to 16th, encouraging communities to host events that showcase local climate action and promote a cleaner, greener future.

Henley River Clean Up

Following the Henley Royal Regatta last year, a group of about 30 volunteers embarked on a river clean-up operation along the stretch of the River Thames from Leander Club to Upper Thames Rowing Club. Led by environmental advocate Lynne Lambourne and former GB rower Greg Searle, the team collected various items, including a pink striped cowboy hat and a Prada shoe. Despite challenging weather conditions, they managed to fill 10 recycling boxes with rubbish, primarily single-use plastics like water bottles and cups. This initiative reflects the regatta's commitment to sustainability and responsibility for both on and off-water clean-up efforts. Participants emphasised the importance of community involvement and raising awareness, particularly among young people, about the detrimental effects of plastic pollution on marine ecosystems. The event showcased the spirit of Henley right on our doorstep!

Climate change and sustainable brands

Climate change has spurred a growing awareness among consumers about the environmental impact of their purchasing habits, leading to a rise in demand for sustainable brands. These brands prioritise eco-friendly practices throughout their production processes, from sourcing materials to manufacturing and distribution. By reducing carbon emissions, minimising waste and conserving natural resources, sustainable brands aim to mitigate their contribution to climate change and promote environmental stewardship. Additionally, many sustainable brands prioritise transparency and ethical practices, ensuring fair treatment of workers and accountability in their supply chains. As consumers increasingly seek out products aligned with their values, sustainable brands play a crucial role in driving positive change towards a more environmentally conscious and resilient future.

The impact of reusable wellness products

“67% of global consumers say that environmental health and how their choices impact the planet is important to them”

NIQ

The increasing popularity and impact of reusable wellness products are closely tied to the growing awareness and concern among consumers about environmental health and sustainability. With 67% of global consumers prioritising the planet's well-being and considering how their choices affect it, the demand for eco-friendly alternatives in the wellness industry has surged. By opting for reusable alternatives, consumers can significantly decrease the amount of plastic pollution entering landfills and oceans, thus contributing to the preservation of natural ecosystems and wildlife. Moreover, the adoption of reusable wellness products aligns with broader efforts to promote sustainable living practices and mitigate the adverse effects of climate change. As consumer preferences continue to shift towards environmentally conscious options, the positive impact of reusable wellness products on both personal well-being and the planet is expected to grow.

“The long life of a single reusable packaging item eliminates hundreds of single-use packaging items from entering the landfill, reducing solid waste by up to 86%.”

How do refill pouches make a difference?

Refill pouches revolutionised sustainability efforts by making a significant difference in environmental impact. Beyond just recyclability, these pouches dramatically reduce carbon footprints, slashing plastic usage by an impressive 80-90% compared to rigid bottles. Moreover, they streamline logistics, requiring fewer resources for transportation and storage. Flexible pouches need only one truckload, while rigid bottles demand 10-15 truckloads when empty, making refill pouches easier on the environment. Not only are they lightweight and durable, but they also cut down on emissions by minimising trips to the store or having home deliveries. Additionally, refill pouches require significantly less water and energy to produce than traditional bottles, offering a hassle-free, eco-friendly alternative. Their easy storage further enhances organisation, consuming less space and exemplifying their role in fostering sustainable practices effortlessly.

In creating Henley Naturals, our commitment to environmental impact and sustainability has been paramount. We recognize that urgent action is necessary to combat climate change, and while larger corporations play a significant role, individual responsibility remains vital. By embracing sustainability principles, we aim to make a positive difference both within our business and beyond. Refill pouches are just one example of how simple changes can have a profound impact. They not only reduce plastic waste but also minimise carbon footprints and streamline logistics, embodying our dedication to a cleaner, greener future. As we move forward, let us continue to support initiatives like the ones highlighted here – from community-driven events like Show The Love and The Great Big Green Week to individual choices in supporting sustainable brands and opting for reusable wellness products. Together, we can create a healthier planet for generations to come!
